(The following is a report by the Public
Corruption Investigators Office of the ACSA, on behalf of the 9
million membership. It is noted that since this report was compiled,
Senator Harry Reid broke into a "The War is Lost" outrage and has since
sponsored legislation to cause funding to the War in Iraq to be delayed, by
putting in a six month troop withdrawal time table, and pork barrel
spending, both of which require a Presidential Veto.)
Harry
Reid's personal corruptness keeps investigators awake at night.
At this moment, the fullest extent of the loudly outspoken Senate
Majority Leader's scandals are not known. However because his party
is in the majority, they dare not censure him for criminal
misconduct. But, the US Attorney in Las Vegas is investigating
many odd buy/sell deals Reid prospered from, and long term
investigation into influence peddling on behalf of convicted corrupt
lobbyist Jack Abramoff, is piquing the curiosity of the Department
of Justice. Reid's frequent contact with Underworld figures is
also quite troubling to some criminal sleuths. It is probably only a
matter of time.
Scandal #1: Gerrymandering
("rigging") zoning laws to
convert residential purchase by a paper loan with a partner, so as
to title the purchase, and collect millions when the rezoned
property is sold to a Shopping Mall developer with no tax liability: Reid didn't
even have to shell out penny one of his own money as his partner, Jay Brown, footed
the whole bill in exchange for Reid's influence on the zoning in the
outskirts of Las Vegas for a Shopping Mall's Developer. Quite a
payday. Here's how the Associated Press and others reported
it:
Senate Democratic Leader
Harry Reid collected a $1.1
million windfall on a Las
Vegas land sale even though
he hadn’t owned the property
for three years, property
deeds show.
The Nevada Democrat’s deal
was engineered by Jay Brown,
a longtime friend and former
casino lawyer whose name
surfaced in a political
bribery trial this summer
and in previous
organized-crime
investigations. He has never
been charged with wrongdoing
— except for a 1981 federal
securities complaint that
was settled out of court.
Land deeds obtained by The
Associated Press show:
• The deal began in 1998
when Reid bought undeveloped
residential property on Las
Vegas’ booming outskirts for
about $400,000. Reid bought
one lot outright and a
second parcel jointly with
Brown.
• In 2001, Reid sold the
land for the same price to a
limited-liability
corporation created by
Brown. The senator did not
disclose the sale on his
annual public ethics report
or tell Congress that he had
a stake in Brown’s company.
He continued to report to
Congress that he personally
owned the land.
• After getting local
officials to rezone the
property for a shopping
center, Brown’s company sold
the land in 2004 to other
developers, and Reid took
$1.1 million of the
proceeds, nearly tripling
his investment. Reid
reported it to Congress as a
personal land sale.
The complex dealings allowed
Reid to transfer ownership,
legal liability and some tax
consequences to Brown’s
company without public
knowledge but still collect
a seven-figure payoff nearly
three years later.
Scam #2: Reid accepts a $68,000 and
other contributions from convicted briber-lobbyist Jack Abramoff and
a $4000 contribution from one of his lobbyists, for using influence
to help Abramoff land influence for Indian Nation clients and
influences legislation to their mutual benefit, part of the effort
for which Abramoff was recently sent to jail. Reid also
organizes a series of Abramoff client supportive legislative votes,
and bill introductions, serving as a middle man between other Senate
and House Democrats, securing their votes and support with other "contributions"
by Abramoff. This presumes that there weren't other moneys
hidden in some Swiss Bank Account. here's how the various
Press Organizations reported on this scandal, which is still
ensuing:
Senate Democratic Leader
Harry Reid wrote at least four letters helpful to
Indian tribes represented by Jack Abramoff, and the
senator's staff regularly had contact with the
disgraced lobbyist's team about legislation
affecting other clients.
The activities _
detailed in billing records and correspondence
obtained by The Associated Press _ are far more
extensive than previously disclosed. They occurred
over three years as Reid collected nearly $68,000 in
donations from Abramoff's firm, lobbying partners
and clients.
Reid's office
acknowledged Thursday having "routine contacts" with
Abramoff's lobbying partners and intervening on some
government matters _ such as blocking some tribal
casinos _ in ways Abramoff's clients might have
deemed helpful. But it said none of his actions were
affected by donations or done for Abramoff.
"All the actions that
Senator Reid took were consistent with his long-
held beliefs, such as not letting tribal casinos
expand beyond reservations, and were taken to defend
the interests of Nevada constituents," spokesman Jim
Manley said.
Reid, D-Nev., has led
the Democratic Party's attacks portraying Abramoff's
lobbying and fundraising as a Republican scandal.
But Abramoff's records show his lobbying partners
billed for nearly two dozen phone contacts or
meetings with Reid's office in 2001 alone.
Most were to discuss
Democratic legislation that would have applied the
U.S. minimum wage to the Northern Mariana Islands, a
U.S. territory and Abramoff client, but would have
given the islands a temporary break on the wage
rate, the billing records show.
Reid also intervened
on government matters at least five times in ways
helpful to Abramoff's tribal clients, once opposing
legislation on the Senate floor and four times
sending letters pressing the Bush administration on
tribal issues. Reid collected donations around the
time of each action.
...Abramoff's firm
also hired one of Reid's top legislative aides as a
lobbyist. The aide later helped throw a fundraiser
for Reid at Abramoff's firm that raised donations
from several of his lobbying partners. And Reid's
longtime chief of staff accepted a free trip to
Malaysia arranged by a consulting firm connected to
Abramoff that recently has gained attention in the
influence-peddling investigation that has gripped
the Capitol.

Scandal #3: Reid, voting on
pending boxing legislation, takes free tickets from the Boxing
Commission as a gift. He voted against the Agency which would
have usurped the Boxing Commission's dominant position over the
Boxing world:
Senate
Democratic Leader Harry M. Reid (Nev.)
accepted free ringside tickets from the
Nevada Athletic Commission to three
professional boxing matches while that
state agency was trying to influence him
on federal regulation of boxing.
Reid took
the free seats for Las Vegas fights
between 2003 and 2005 as he was pressing
legislation to increase government
oversight of the sport, including the
creation of a federal boxing commission
that Nevada's agency feared might usurp
its authority.
He
defended the gifts, saying that they
would never influence his position on
the bill and he was simply trying to
learn how his legislation might affect
an important home state industry.
"Anyone from Nevada would say I'm glad
he is there taking care of the state's
number one businesses," he said. "I love
the fights anyways, so it wasn't like
being punished," added the senator, a
former boxer and boxing judge.
Senate
ethics rules generally allow lawmakers
to accept gifts from federal, state or
local governments, but specifically warn
against taking such gifts — particularly
on multiple occasions — when they might
be connected to efforts to influence
official actions.
Boxing is allegedly the most corrupt
sport in the entire field, and from his background as a former boxer
and boxing referee, one can see where the Puppet Dirty Harry Reid
gets the chutzpah to pretend to be a Senator.
And these are just the things
reported by the not-too-interested Press.
Scandal #4. Not to be outdone
by Reid: The "majority" Democrat Party has claimed that it was
"uninvolved in Jack Abramoff's activities". However, the
Federal Election Commission has recently published the following
list of other donations to Democrats made by Abramoff, and "Public
Eye" has identified that, in proportion to the size of the donation,
each of the following participated in an equal amount, by writing
legislation, sending letters, influencing legislation, and serving
as advocates of Jack Abramoff related lobbying activities, many at
the behest of his chief Democratic Party ally, majority leader Harry
Reid, who brokered most of the activities (list supplied by Public
Eye, verified with the FEDEDERAL ELECTIONS COMMISSION):
